 History. With the invaluable help of world-renowned golf course architect Robert Muir Graves, Kenneth Hume Hunter, Jr. set out in 1986 to develop the finest pure test of golf he could imagine. It started with a great location - 309 acres of gently rolling, oak studded, ancient sand hills 30 miles north of Santa Barbara. Mr. Hunter developed it much as he did his other nationally acclaimed courses, Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta and Hunter Ranch in Paso Robles, with no commercial development or housing surrounding the golf course land. His courses are built for pure golf.
Playing La Purisima. And pure golf is what you get. A challenging test of skill and character, La Purisima rewards the bold and leaves the recently-hooked newcomer loving the game even more. It is beautiful in its naturally undulating landscape, challenging in its hole designs, with tees never far from the preceding greens. La Purisima is a remarkably enjoyable walk, or a pleasant ride on our power carts. We don't believe in tricky designs with waterfalls, island greens, and railroad ties.
