Pro Tip of the Month
Most amateur putting strokes resemble a prayer rather than a committed attempt towards victory!!  We must take responsibility for our putts by HOLDING OUR FINISH at the target.  If your putter head recoils or stops shortly after impact, you better toss a penny in the fountain before you tee off!!

Superintendent Update
This is my favorite time of year in Lompoc.  The days get a little warmer and the wind calms down.  We have had a pretty good summer and the course has stayed very consistent.  As the days get shorter we will have less spot watering to do and this will enable us to get going on some well needed projects.  The first of which will be to begin leveling some of the crowned tees on the golf course.  Crowning is caused by the accumulation of sand in the center of the tees due to years of topdressing.  It is a common problem as golf courses get older.  We will remove the sod, re-level the tee, and replace the sod.  This will have to be done all in one day so we will be doing one tee at a time.  This is a very labor intensive process but in time we will complete all of the tees that need it.  Bear with us as we level the tees because we will have to close the tee box we are working on, but we will get it back open as soon as possible.  Jason Pautsch, GCSAA

News From the Grill
If you've only thought of us for a quick snack or beverage at the turn think again-breakfast and lunch offer great food and value. We have new items on the menu and have extended our ½ bottle wine list to include some of our great local wineries, like Au Bon Climat, Baileyana, JLohr, Castoro Cellars, Alma Rosa, Fess Parker and Tobin James.

We have "Happy Hour" seven days a week, when you can get any draft beer and appetizer for 50% off regular prices, daily from 3-6pm.  And our tables around the fountain in the courtyard are the perfect place to cool off after your game.
Bon Appetit!

Every year about this time we get many calls to the golf shop regarding greens aerification. Many golfers have a misconception that "punched" greens are not worth playing. At La Purisima we use a unique process wereby the damage to turf is minimal. Most courses pull a "plug" from the green then topdress with some coarse sand. We use a Verti-Drain machine with 10" tines about 4" apart that fractures the plow pan layer and does not pull a plug. We then use about 75 to 100 tons of fine sand to fill all the holes which smooths the surface.
Our schedule for greens aerification is Monday September 28 and Tuesday September 29. The rest of the week we will charge a special twilight rate. I invite everyone to come out and see what greens being aerified the correct way are like. If you are unsatifised with the conditions, I will give you are free round to come back as our guest.

See you on the first tee!
