October is renewal time for the 2010 Players Club. Every year we strive to put out the best possible package and this years is the best. How do we know it is the best? Because we surveyed all our members and you told us what to include. We brought back the popular four for $100 coupons and added some great new benefits. Click Here for all the details. Pro Tip of the Month As many of you know the wind can tend to blow most afternoons here at La Purisima. The best way to handle this is to chant the mantra: Swing Easy When its Breezy. Far too many players try and swing harder rather than softer and more fluid. Like the surfers say, be one with the wave. I want you to be one with the wind and let it be your friend.

There are still a few great events left in 2009 to participate in. Joining the Players Club now will allow you access to play in all the events. Remember membership is good until the end of December 2010. Click here for the upcoming tournament schedule. Superintendent Update This month on the golf course we will be doing aerification of the roughs and fairways. We will be doing a couple of holes per day so the impact on play will be minimal. This is a vital process to continue to improve the playing conditions of the fairways. This process both relieves compaction as well as improves the drainage of the soil. This is the time of year when the soil seals up due to the bi-carbonates in the irrigation water. Bi-carbonates are tiny flat insoluble particles in water that plug the pore space in the soil. The only way to correct this problem is to mechanically break the soils surface and allow water and salts to drain out of the root-zone.
Jason Pautsch, GCSAA Golf Course Superintendent News From the Grill Have you sampled our killer weekend Tri-Tip sandwiches? We cook the meat to perfection outside over seasoned coastal oak. The perfect compliment to a day of golf or wine tasting. We have just added many new 1/2 bottles of wine such as Alma Rosa Chardonnay, Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir, Castro Merlot or J. Lohr Chardonnay to name a few. So come out and enjoy the beautiful outside dining with gorgeous golf course views. Let us help you with your upcoming holiday parties. Email me at

Down the Middle by Perry Hallmeyer PGA Head Professional
We are entering that time of year where daylight is getting shorter and the temperatures are cooler. Many players tend to play less and some hang up their clubs until the next season. Rather then falling into the same old routine this winter, try and make a commitment to work hard on your 100 yards and in game. As evidenced by the recent Presidents Cup, short game is paramount to scoring consistency.
I recommend placing a simple target like your head covers on the ground at paced off intervals, such as 50 yards, 75 yards, 100 yards etc. Then using your favorite ball hit 10-12 shots alternating targets. If you can practice this at least three times a week, I guarantee you will shave a few shots off your score come spring time. See you on the first tee! |
